Where has your faith gone?

Consumed and overwhelmed by the afflictions I have empowered to lead my life-What does this mean? It means we are lost. We are in the desert, disoriented having no compass to find our way to shelter. What has happened? What has caused this confusion? The shallowness of our hearts has been punished, swollen with pride, envy, anger, prejudice and judgment. The enemy is very tactical, concise and intrusive. He uses his weapons to penetrate mans thinking, his feelings and his mind; twisting truths and teachings to his advantage. Once his spin has enveloped mans intellect the battle he wages quickly overrides mans inner being persuading him to act in ungodly ways; to delusion himself from the truth of life that by now is detached from his soul. The army of destruction has gained the upper hand and now it is easy to keep us prisoner for his forces have momentum fueled by mans greed, self pity and selfishness. The powers of today’s technology are his ultimate weapon. Continuously he can wet our appetites with streams of information that have no seeds of love, of kindness, of righteousness, grace or truth. For today’s people are in the midst of battle not knowing they are strengthening the enemies position. When will we wake up? When will we take back our lives? When will we start living by values that inspire others?
The answer to these questions is many of us have chosen to live a life without God. If we continue this pattern we will spiral downward into sin and a skewed understanding about the truth that's evident all around. As ignorance overpowers the capacity for intelligent understanding, an ever-darkening heart develops. You and I begin to hunger for something to fill our emptiness but we fail to recognize that only the Lord can satisfy this longing. While we search for that spiritual void we replace the truth and attach ourselves to "Idols" that will occupy our passion, time, and energy; and in today's world, they often take the form of money, prominence, and relationships. We are the "worshiper" who begins to indulge in earthly pleasures and desires. Yet nothing can satisfy the emptiness. Eventually, as Romans 1:28 makes clear, the Lord will turn him over to a depraved mind—one that can no longer make right judgments.
So where are you today? What are your beliefs centered on? Will you be the farmer planting seeds among others; seeds of goodness, kindness and joy?
It is time for all of us to take back our lives, incorporate Gods teachings and produce a harvest that will bless our friends, families and others we do not know.

MEMORIAL DAY: A REMINDER THAT THERE IS A PRICE FOR FREEDOM

On this Memorial Day many will venture to the shore or pack their families for a getaway weekend never considering what this day stands for.
Most cannot fathom the sacrifices and blood thousands of families have suffered and spilled to uphold the freedoms we so take advantage of.
There is a price for freedom and today our men and women are fighting on foreign shores, dying and suffering to protect this human right.
America has and will forever be the symbol of freedom. We cannot forget this. Being part of this country demands that we uphold the values and teachings of our forefathers; that we defend what they fought so hard to create and pass on to us.
The great men of this country have left us a legacy to carry forward and to remind us that freedom does come with a price. As Abraham Lincoln states in his Gettsburg Address:
"The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here; while it can never forget what they did here.
that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

It is my hope that we as a nation will not stumble and weaken our resolve to protect this gift. It is the freedoms of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that we covet and must fight for.
John F Kennedy saw this and believed it is a priviledge to stand and fight to adhere that every American share in God given freedoms.
"The path we have chosen for the present is full of hazards, as all paths are. The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission."

So today I ask you to reflect on the blessings in your life and to pray for the men and women whose lives were cut short by defending your Freedom. The heartache and tears of mothers and fathers who lost a child must never be forgotten. It is a loss and a price we must endure for freedom. Extinguish from your minds your trivial worries and dwell for a moment on the gratitude and thankfulness to the men and women of this great country who volunteer to serve and protect your freedom.

I leave you two passages from Abraham Lincoln and Shanon Hanson that I hope ignites your heart and soul.

Dear Madam,
I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine that would attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved, lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln

The Price Of Freedom
written by Shanon Hanson

Some were ready and prepared,
Others were so young and so naive.
Some of them chose to serve our country,
Others had no choice, they were called to serve.

As they hugged and kissed their loved ones bye,
Their hearts were heavy and tears filled in their eyes.
Not knowing if they would be coming back home,
Or if they would die, it was all so unknown.

As they prepared to fight for our freedom,
We prayed to God for their safety.
They all left their loved ones,
And their lives that they had known.

They departed to an unfamiliar land
Risking their lives and making so many sacrifices.
Being away from family and friends,
Giving up what most can't even comprehend.

The horrors and atrocities that
Our Veterans faced and endured,
You may not ever know or totally understand.
They protected our rights, our freedom, and the rights of others,
So that we could have and enjoy freedom in our land.

Some came home to a Hero's welcome,
Others didn't come home at all, they made the ultimate sacrifice.
Some came home and were disgracefully shunned,
Others have been so shamefully forgotten.

All of our Veterans served our country,
With great pride and true honor.
There is a price for freedom which they ALL so graciously paid.
They ALL greatly deserve to be remembered and honored,
Afterall....they are truly America's Heros ! : )

The Powerful Tongue

Do you think you are living right? Do your words express a philosophy of peace and goodness? Maybe, maybe not; but taking a hard look inside is the first step. Jesus said, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword." (Matthew 26:50). Job said, "your sin prompts your mouth." (Job 15:5) And David wrote, "Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from that noisy crowd of evildoers. They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their words like deadly arrows." (Psalm 64:2-4) I've taken some pretty "deadly arrows" in my life. Probably dished out a few too, unfortunately. But I hope I'm learning not only how to guard my tongue, but also how to better offer life with such a powerful tool.

Your awareness of how you are using this tool must be accountable. Before you open your mouth to respond, give pause for just a second to consider the motive behind what you are about to say. What do you intend to impart to the hearer. Speak the truth always, but speak it in love, not anger. Speak it with kindness, not cutting.
The smallest of acts released from the tongue can cause incredible damage. A forest fire can be started with one match, a large ship can be controlled by a small rudder, a small rock can cause a great avalanche and the tongue, well it is the deadliest of them all. The tongue is like fire spreading its deception within the body and influencing the lives around it. If you think you are living right then pause for a moment and see if your words and thoughts are continually positive and encouraging. Do you curse others, judge others, blame others, gossip about others, condemn others, if so then the tongue is not working correctly. If we use the tongue to praise others and then curse others then we are not in alignment. Think about it, do good and bad water flow from the same spring, can a well of salty water give good water, can an orange tree produce apples. No! So how then can we think we are in balance or living right? When jealousy, selfishness and bitterness are in the heart then the tongue will emit poisons of lies that will only detour the soul.

If we admit our faults and look for ways to correct them then we can silent the misguided tongue and allow the wisdom of God to start leading our lives. Gentleness, peace, honesty will be the magnets to lead us in the direction where we can find balance to a better way of living.

Reclaiming Your Life

Why is it that the spirit of the Lord has not affected you or touched your heart? What distractions cause this interference ? Are you so ingrained in the worlds technology that you've allowed mans teachings and views control your lifes path? Maybe today is the day you will step back from all the noise and consider for a moment what is leading you, what values are forming the life you will live. Gods grace and all His work are taken for granted. You and I are lost and dont even realize it. We are the miracle and that has escaped our souls, our thoughts and our faith.
This has nothing to do with religion or mans ideology. It has everything to do with you and the relationship you have with the almighty. Life has a way of disrupting the flow of Gods message and love to you. Life becomes so hectic that God's voice is inaudible.
I know many of you have turned and walked away from God in anger and disappointment. You believe there is no God or that the Lord has hurt you so you left and decided to turn away from him and take a differnt path in lIfe. One created by man. One that fits your current life views, one that satisfies your personal desires, one that feeds the your self serving beliefs.
This is exactly what I did. I began studying Buddhisim, spiritual awakenings and other mystic teachings that were based on Love, the universe and other good intentions. But through it all I still faced sin, doubt and troubles. I wandered through miserable meanderings of my own making. I even attained monetary success that the world views as happiness but that was from from the truth.

I tried it all and in the end the only path that has brought stability, peace and joy is my relationship with God.
What I realized was that although I walked away from God, He did not walk away from me. The Lord allowed me to experience life in the wilderness of doubt and struggle but He was right there watching over me and waiting for me to return.
Eventually, I allowed myself to feel His presence in my life. Little by little, the Lord wooed me back to Himself. I remember the exact time and place that I felt Him speak to my spirit, "Let's start over and do it right this time." It has not been easy but thats OK. Nothing in Life comes easy for if it did we would never appreciate the obstacles and hurdles we had to endure to achieve success.
The work to change my damaged spiritual heart began by studying the Bible. This time it wasn't going to be head knowledge, but heart knowledge.

My faith was back on track but I wondered did God still have a vision for me even after the sinful years of life I had been living.
The conclusion was yes he does. In the Bible the Lord says, "For God's gifts and his call are irrevocable (Romans 11:29, NIV). The Lord desires for us to move beyond the shame of past mistakes and into His calling for our lives. He will restore us to useful service in the Kingdom. It takes time and it is a process, but the Almighty God still has a plan for each of our lives. He intends to replace disgrace with rejoicing, so that we may show our world that we are living miracles.

Embrace the Struggle by Zig Ziglar

This week's devotional is adapted from Zig Ziglar's book Embrace the Struggle.

On March 7, 2007, my life changed completely with one, simple, misplaced step and a fall down the stairs resulting in vertigo and brain injury induced short-term memory loss. Some would say it changed for the worse, and by human standards they would be entirely right. Fortunately, and I can assure you this is not by chance the one verse that I've written in the majority of books I've been asked to autograph, the verse that I believe encourages people most in the midst of their troubles, Romans 8:28, "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose" (KJV), is the verse that allows me to know that God will use this season of my life, difficult though it may be, for His glory and my ultimate benefit.

One day my daughter Julie asked me if it was upsetting to me to have short-term memory loss. I told her that I honestly did not ever feel upset because I could not remember what I had forgotten. My life today is entirely in the present. That kind of focus has its benefits, but I have to say that without my wife to tell me where we're supposed to be and when, well, I'd miss out on just about everything.

Some might call what I just told you "being candid." I call it "being transparent." There is no sense in trying to act or pretend like nothing unusual is going on with me. Just a few minutes of conversation on some days is enough to reveal my memory problem. Other days I have considerably more clarity, and if we met and visited for even up to thirty minutes, I might seem like my old, pre-fall self. At least that is what my family tells me. I can't remember all that happened yesterday or this morning, but I can tell you almost anything you want to know about stuff that happened before the fall, and that is why I'm still able to be on stage with the interview format.

But I have to be transparent with my audience. Julie tells me there are times I "get stuck in a loop" and keep going back to the same topic. She interrupts me, and I usually have a one-liner on hand to put the audience at ease…when you laugh at yourself the world laughs with you. If we hadn't told the audience in advance about my fall and about my memory loss, it could get very uncomfortable for them while they try to figure out what is going on. That's one reason I'm talking about transparency here. The other reason makes the bigger point.

The first person you have to be transparent with at all times is yourself. If you can't see what's going on with you, you can't see what needs to happen next. The alcoholic who doesn't think she has drinking problem won't seek help. The workaholic who denies that twelve-hour workdays are too long won't take time off to see his child's soccer game. The perfectionist can't and won't relax, the morbidly obese won't get healthy, and the people who think they present a perfect picture to the world take themselves way too seriously. The list is endless…add a few of your own…maybe you'll discover something that applies to you.

I've known many people who have been told by more than just a few friends that they had problems, but until they're willing to admit their problems, there was no convincing them they needed help. Reality can be pretty hard to take, especially when dealing with it might require gut-wrenching hard work. I come from a generation that didn't talk about personal problems. You sucked it up and went on with your life. If things weren't going well, it was your duty to hide it from anyone and everyone. Appearances were more important than getting help.

When I first started doing a lot of public speaking, I knew that what I said had to make a difference in people's lives or there was no sense in saying it. I instinctively knew that people needed to relate to what I had to say on an emotional and applicable level and that I had to be real myself if I wanted my material to make a "real" difference to the individuals who heard it.

Nothing, in my experience, has a stronger impact on individuals than hearing stories of how it was then, how it is now, and what happened in between. Those stories give hope to the hopeless. They say, "See, life can be hard but it will get better – if you do!" If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel you can't see where to go. Stories of hope inspire people to find their way out of bad situations. Like the parables in the Bible – they give direction.

I'm sure I could have gone my entire speaking career without telling anyone that I don't gamble or drink and why. I could have left out the truth about how many different jobs I've had in the course of my sales career; how many times I relocated my family in search of the pot-of-gold sales job. I could have skipped telling how my wife has cried with relief when I came with cash and we could pay bills and buy groceries. But I could never have convinced you that you can improve your attitude and your circumstances if I couldn't show you how I'd done it myself.

I was young, vigorous and healthy when all of the circumstances mentioned above happened. Now I have challenges that I may never entirely overcome, and I want you to know that having the right outlook, realistic expectations, and constant hope for something better will serve you and the people you love so much better than resigned acceptance of the status quo. Life is to be lived transparently, excitedly, with eager anticipation of the good things that still lie ahead, in spite of our circumstances.

Field of Dreams

No matter how old we are competition burns in our souls. It brings joy to our hearts. So when you get out of bed every morning are you putting in the effort needed to move forward and achieve the results you search for; or are you wasting time feeling sorry for yourselves, feeling angry, frustrated and unworthy? Are these feelings productive in our lives? Is our attitude affecting friends and loved ones? Are we stuck dwelling on self-centeredness and self loathing? If so then we are not giving our best! We are not out there participating on the field of life; competing to win and accomplish the goals and dreams we all strive for. We are bystanders, watching from the sidelines, judging, blaming and criticizing ourselves and others for why our life has not turned out the way we thought. We think its safer staying in the stands, casting out our opinions, justifying the circumstances in our lives. But that is the greatest falsehood of all time. We've all dreamed of catching that winning touchdown, making that last second shot, crossing the finish line first or hitting a game winning homerun.
We've allowed obstacles amd hardships derail us from putting on that uniform. Life is calling you in, what will you do? Step over those fears, knock out failure and get in the game.
When its all said and done, when your time here on earth is about to expire, I hope the heavens will be preparing to wash the dirtiest uniform of all time. Then you will know you did try, you did participate, you did live!
